Welcome to Paddington Vet, where our expertise extends to the precise treatment of entropion in pets. Entropion, a condition leading to inward rolling of the eyelids and causing discomfort and potential damage to the eye, is a concern particularly for certain dog breeds and older cats. Our veterinary team, experienced in addressing this issue, offers effective surgical solutions under general anaesthesia to correct the eyelid positioning, thereby alleviating discomfort and preventing further eye damage. With a strong track record of successful entropion surgeries, we are committed to providing your pet with the relief they need, ensuring a quick return to their happy, pain-free life.

Understanding Entropion Surgery at Paddington Vet

What is Entropion?

Entropion is a medical condition where the eyelids fold inward, causing the eyelashes to irritate the cornea. Pets with this condition often exhibit symptoms like excessive tearing and frequent blinking due to discomfort.

Breeds at Higher Risk

Certain breeds, including Rottweilers, Malamutes, Mastiffs, and Shar-Peis, are more susceptible to entropion, typically affecting the outer part of the lower eyelids. In Shar-Pei puppies, upper eyelid entropion may resolve as they grow. Treatment may involve the use of anti-inflammatory or antibiotic eye ointments and, in some cases, temporary sutures to protect the cornea. Additionally, older cats and breeds like Pugs can develop entropion, particularly affecting the inner lower eyelids.

Importance of Treatment

Neglecting entropion can lead to severe corneal scarring and potentially lead to blindness. It is crucial to address this condition promptly to alleviate ongoing discomfort for your pet.

Surgical Treatment

At Paddington Vet, we perform entropion surgery under general anaesthesia. Depending on the severity and whether one or both eyes are affected, the procedure lasts 20 to 45 minutes. The surgery aims to restore symmetry to the eye, with minimal scarring due to strategic incision placement.

Procedure Costs

With extensive experience in over a decade of entropion surgeries, our pricing starts from $1,700, reflecting our commitment to affordable, high-quality care.

We do offer payment plans through credit providers. Please see our payment plans section for more information.

Post-Surgery Care

Your pet can return home the same day, equipped with antibiotics, pain medication, and eye ointment. A protective cone is necessary until sutures are removed two weeks post-operation. Complete healing takes a few weeks, but noticeable improvements in comfort and behaviour are often immediate.

At Paddington Vet, we're dedicated to ensuring your pet recovers quickly and comfortably from entropion, using our expertise to bring relief and restore their quality of life.
